Suminagashi Art with Mr. B~

What a privilege it is for our classroom to welcome a wonderful artist and supporter of schools into our classroom.  Mr. B. loves art and shares his passion with students every chance he gets.  With a wonderful donation for supplies from his mother, Ms. Ann Beauchamp, we were able to participate in Suminagashi art. Suminagashi is known as "The Japanese Art of Marbling." 

 

Room 4 thanks you Mr. B. and the thoughtful donation from your mother for our art supplies. We love ART~

We are so fortunate to live in America.  We spent the day after November 11, reading literature and discussing the reason we weren't at school on Monday.  Please enjoy the video clip we watched and the drawing it inspired Zoey to create.  To our Armed Services, Room 4 thanks you for our freedom.  Here's to the RED, WHITE, and BLUE~

Uncle Sam came to visit us today as a reward for reading AR books. His special message, along with our librarian Mrs. Smalley was, "I want YOU, to keep reading!" You got it, Uncle Sam.  From Room 4.

AR Comprehension Stars

Reading a book takes you on a trip of a lifetime.  It's your imagination, your creative way to understand what the book is all about.  It is possible to swim in the ocean next to a great white shark or become a super sleuth while reading A to Z Mysteries.  Whatever your favorite choice is, fiction or nonfiction, when you open a book, your journey is only a title away.  Thank you, for sharing in the joy and the great adventures you get with reading.

The best way to learn is to be present.  Thank you for all of your hard work and dedication.  I love seeing your smiling faces everyday.  Great job and keep up the effort! 

A "Little" Extra Help with Rounding

Families, so much has changed in math and what is expected from a 3rd grader.  Please know that if you need a little "refresher" on math skills, you are not alone.  If I didn't teach 3rd grade math every year, I would also need a "brush-up" on my math skills.  If you look at your child's homework and ever think, "Wow, I didn't do that until I was in 6th grade (or higher)," you are probably right.  You can also have your child login to their Edmodo account from home (they know how) to watch other math videos I have provided for them.  Hope this offers some help!  And please, never hesitate to send a note with your student on a math problem from the nightly homework. I am here to offer any extra help they might need.

Fall Leaves

I am just so overjoyed with the simplicities and pure joy of children.  I love fall, and my students know this. During their recess, they can't wait to find that one "perfect" leaf to share with me.  Of course we all know teachers love their apples, but this thoughtfulness brings much pleasure to my daily routine in Room 4.  Thank you, students.  You make me smile!

 

The leaves had a wonderful frolic.

They danced to the wind's loud song.

They whirled, and they floated, and scampered.

They circled and flew along.

 

The moon saw the little leaves dancing. 

Each looked like a small brown bird.

The man in the moon smiled and listened.

 

The North Wind is calling, is calling,

And we must whirl round and round,

And then, when our dancing is ended,

We'll make a warm quilt for the ground.
