~Meet Mrs. Campbell and Miss Ferge~

Mrs. Campbell

Mrs. Campbell grew up in a small town called New Plymouth, Idaho.  She lived there for 21 years of her life, being active in basketball, 4-H, and Rodeo.  If Mrs. Campbell wasn't shooting hoops, she'd be riding off into the sunset. 

Mrs. Campbell earned her Associate's degree from Treasure Valley Community College, her Bachelor's of Science degree from Eastern Oregon University and her Master's of Arts in Teaching degree from Grand Canyon University.  She has been teaching for 11 years; 5 of those years in 2nd grade at Sam Boardman Elementary (one year teaching second at Rocky Heights) and 6 years teaching 3rd grade at Rocky Heights.  She has been honored with the "You Make a Difference Award" in 2011 and the "Crystal Apple Award" in 2013.

Mrs. Campbell has 2 beautiful nieces, 2 handsome nephews and another niece or nephew on the way.  She also has two kids of her own who attend Echo Elementary School.  Riley, her daughter, is in 3rd grade and Tyler, her son, is in Kindergarten.  She also sent her biggest kid (husband Ben) off to school as well this year as the new PE/Health teacher in the Echo School District.  Boy, is it a good thing her family loves school! 

Miss Ferge

Miss Ferge lives on a small farm outside of Echo, OR.  She went to school at Echo from grades K-12, and yes, that was all in the same building!  She was active in volleyball, basketball, and FFA where she took on leadership roles. 

Miss Ferge graduated high school in 2010 followed by attending Blue Mountain Community College to get her A.A.O.T.  She then transferred to Eastern Oregon University after being accepted into the Education Program.  She has one term of student teaching left before she is officially a teacher!

Miss Ferge has a precious niece who is 3-years-old and full of life.  And even more news from Miss Ferge is... she has recently got engaged! Congratulations to Miss Ferge.   

Miss Ferge is thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Mrs. Campbell this fall and with this particular class of 3rd grade students.  There will be lessons to teach and learn, as well as wonderful memories to be made in Room 4 this year!

A Year to Remember

This year has been an amazing educational journey, filled with learning, friendships, fun and hard work. Families of 2013/2014 school year, your child has impressed me more than words can say.  I am pleased with all of their efforts and progress, but most importantly the individuals that they are.  Thank you for sharing your most precious gifts with me.

We've got A LOT to catch up on!

Students and Families,

 

Wow, we have been so busy and Campbell's Den has missed some important, exciting events.  So let's get caught up on all of the fun and educational opportunities that have taken place in the months of March and April. 

 

First, after reading the novel "Stone Fox," we had a special visitor bring dog sled equipment for us to see what Little Willy used or what mushers use in the annual Iditarod race.  The sleds went really fast on the grass.  Can you imagine how fast they would go on snow and with real sled dogs pulling them (not students)? 

We have also had students buy a "Show and Tell" ticket from the Campbell Store.  Kamryn and Lucy brought in something special to share with the class.  What do you think about their special animals? 

 

March in the classroom has also showcased some very important STARS.  These STARS are chosen by their classmates for showing character traits in the classroom, on the playground, and all over the school.  We are proud of all of you!  Thank you for being a STAR * * *

All of 3rd Grade had a special visit from Representative Greg Smith.  Representative talked to students about laws and how they are made.  Students enjoyed his presentation and we were very thankful he took time out of his busy schedule to help enhance our education.



~Our Stars~

Star Students are chosen by classmates.  Students secretively email me a name of one student each week that they believe show characteristics of STAR Students. Some things we look for are: respect, kindness, support, caring, helpful, thoughtful, understanding and many more!

Happy President's Day!

 

In Room 4, we have been watching videos from "Kid President" that teach us about character.  It has inspired our classroom to choose "STARS" of the week.  These students are chosen by their classmates.  It is an experience that is very humbling, watching eight and nine year-olds carefully select a student that they feel is a "STAR" to others. 

The process of selecting our STARS is confidential (private).  Each student emails me a name and a reason why they have selected that classmate to be the STAR of the week.  Some things we look for are:

*honest                   *respect                     *fair

 

*generous          *inspirational         *giving           *helpful       *caring

 

*friendly       *thoughtful       *kind

3rd grade is a huge academic adjustment from second grade for your child.  They go from "learning to read" to "reading to learn."  It is their first year experiencing the rigorous state testing, OAKS. We still have one more week to go, but your child's Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd Grade teachers have given them words of encouragement as they go through this process.  Thank you Rocky Heights for caring for each child, whether they are in your classroom or not. Students, we are proud of you!  

It's as Easy as P.I.E.

A reading skill that we have practiced within the last month was Author's Purpose.  A way for the students to remember this skill was to think of pie.  That's right, it doesn't get much tastier than that!

Exciting Science

I am so excited for Room 4. On Creative Arts Fridays, you have been learning amazing things from United States History, to Famous Artists, and the great exploration of Science.  Mr. Maloy shared this video with me.  I heard you all giggle and say "ewwwwwe" on Friday, so I thought you would like to watch it again before you dissect actual owl pellets! "Heroes All" Coming Soon...

On Friday, January 31 at 1:15 p.m., Rocky Heights Elementary School will get a preview of the upcoming "Heroes All" production.  At the assembly, the 3rd grade will sing two songs that will get the crowd inspired and exited for the April 18, 2014 production of "Heroes All."  Hope to see you there!

Scavenger Hunt for Congruent Shapes

Today in math we learned about congruent shapes.  If something is congruent, they are the same size AND same shape.  At the end of our lesson (in 5 minutes), look how we could show what congruent means.  Can you find any congruent shapes at home?

Congratulations, Mr. Wilson! Admin of the Year~

It is with such great pleasure to share with everyone that our very own Mr. Wilson was chosen as "Admin of the Year" for the Hermiston School District.  This is very special for me personally, because Mr. Wilson was my first principal in 2004 as a 2nd Grade teacher.  He hired me right out of college to work for him in Boardman.   After he left Sam Boardman Elementary School as their principal in 2007 to lead the Raccoons, I knew I would work for him again one day.  Only a year after he left Boardman, a position opened up at Rocky Heights. Thankfully, Mr. Wilson hired me a second time.  He is a wonderful leader who works hard to make everyone happy and successful.  So Mr. Wilson, CONGRATULATIONS to a title so well deserved.

~Celebrating Christmas, One Smile at a Time~

What an amazing day we had! The whole day was a celebration talking about traditions, turning ourselves into dancing elves, sitting around the Christmas tree, decorating Christmas cookies with our Kindergarten buddies, and growing a Santa beard.  A day well spent. Click here to watch an iTrailer of our Christmas Party!

Welcome Back and Under Construction!

Welcome back to school, Room 4.  As you can see, our blog looks a lot different from before.  I am working on fixing it up, but keep visiting to read, watch videos, and see all of the amazing projects our class is doing.

I can't believe it is the year 2014!  A new year means we get many more days to be GREAT.  I am really looking forward to the time we have together and the amazing learning adventures that are coming.  Get ready to learn about American Heroes, animals and their habitats, and cursive writing.
